„Sad but true” Every year at the first weekend of October takes place European Birtwatch, organised by BirdLife International. This year almost 1,000 European Birdwatch events were held in 30 countries. During the two days, more than 17,000 participants observed 3.3 million birds – a record for the last three years and a remarkable illustration of Europe's abundant bird life. Among other Baltic Sea Countries taking part in the Birdwatch, Sweden is the country with largest number of birds seen: 957,520 and with the most diverse bird list: 237 species. My question is: Why I haven’t received any report from Sweden, Finland, Russia and Germany since the year 2004 if there is such interest in birds in these countries? I am sure that only national coordinators can encourage schools and teachers in their countries to participating in certain programmes, also in Bird Ecology. I have closer relationship with Polish teachers due to meetings and workshops organised in our country, so I get mostly reports from Polish schools. In the year 2006 I got 6 from Poland out of 11 I received. In the year 2007 it was even worse. I regret that I couldn’t come to Lithuania, but I hope You will find a solution to this problem.
My regards,
Andrzej Śliwiński BE coordinator
